So you’ve got new 17 inch wheels, upgraded to beefy all terrain tires and added raising springs on your rig… now what?!? Let’s test its off-road worthiness by taking your ride off the beaten path. But, before you do… you’ll need to, “air down” your tires when you reach your rocky destination. Airing down allows your tires to absorb more of the rough terrain as you mosey on through the trail. The aired down tires provide a smoother riding experience when you’re off-road. The key to the DeWALT 20-Vold Max Inflator is once the fun is done and you’re ready to hit the paved road once again – you’ll need to get your tires back up to their normal recommended PSI levels. There are other alternatives to the DeWALT system such as the ARB Air Compressors, but the cost difference helped me decide towards the DeWALT option.
The DeWALT 20-Volt Max Inflator offers a variety of options over an on-board system like the ARB’s. At $99 the DeWALT gives you portability via the optional 20 volt or FlexVolt batteries. The DeWALT is built for high pressure inflation (tires) and high volume pressure (pool inflatables, sport balls, etc.) with all the accessories included on-board the unit. The DeWALT is capable of a maximum 160 PSI and includes an auto-shutoff feature when the desired PSI level is reached — allowing the user to set it and forget it! I also liked that the unit uses a threaded chuck so it’s easy to secure onto your tire when inflating. Another major positive with the DeWALT vs other portable inflator brands is that it comes with a corded 12V DC adapter for your vehicle or can be powered by an optional 110 AC sold by DeWALT separately. This means that if you’re battery runs out… you’re not stuck without an inflator. Just plug the unit into your 12V on your vehicle or wall socket at home and you’re off and running once again!
My Recommendation
For the price and convenience of the DeWALT unit… it handles everything that you would need for overland adventures and can also work double duty as a campsite inflator for beds. If that weren’t enough, the DeWALT can go to the beach or pool house and inflate any flotation device that you or your family may desire. There are plenty of more expensive options out there for dedicated overlanding and they are may surpass the performance of the DeWALT by offering quicker inflation times, but the ability to use the DeWALT in some many different settings and all this under $100? You’d be hard pressed to find another option that has the reliability and durability of the DeWALT 20V Max Inflator. That’s been a quick look… please leave me comments below on your experience with using this inflator or others on the road.
